This is for all my Dorm Life amigos. Which is probably zero.

My friend zone is 5'8". And 50.
My friend zone doesn't Tweet.
In my friend zone, the Spice Girls have never made a movie. Or broken up for that matter.
My friend zone has 84.57 rotating theme songs.
My friend zone can sing like an African-American and ballroom dance like a Russian.
In my friend zone, people are only allowed to walk up/down stairs one person at a time. None of this walking behind people nonsense.
My friend zone secretly looooooooorves Mountain Dew.

Last week we celebrated my Grandpa Litchfield's 80th birthday (6 months early because we reeeeeally didn't want to come to Canada in January). We had a huge party in their backyard with tons of family members and friends from the area. It was really nice, but when I was talking to all the old folks, I realized something. People that haven't seen you in a long time, even family members you've never met before... Their questions change depending on your, um, status, or occupation, or stage of life. For example, my little brothers were asked questions like "So where do you live? Who's little boy are you?" stuff like that. My sisters and younger cousins were all asked about high school, sports, grades, etc. My older cousin and his wife were just totally faaauned over because they were like the only young couple in the whole group of 70+ guests. And they had a secret weapon. Lethal conversation starter for all old people. A. New. Baby.

But not me.
Naw I was asked much more probing questions. Of course, there were the polite, petty questions like "How is school? What are you majoring in?" yaddah yaddah yaddah. But the majority of them were "So do you have a boyfriend?" "How old are you, again? You look just like your mother." "Look at your cousin and his wife, aren't they so beautiful together?" "You're at BYU right? Yeah that's where me and my wife/my daughter and her husband/etc. met." "Have you found any prospective companions?"

No joke. Those were real questions. That last one was word for word. Eew I know.

So I love family reunions. :)

1 love notes

  1. You've got to love family. They mean well. At least, I think that they do. :)
