being quarantined is no fun

so I issued a self-quarantine today.

it was awful. no bueno to say the least.

I tried to sleep in a little, but my internal clock wouldn't let that happen.

so I woke up. took about 3 hours to get ready for the day. tried to find some way to incorporate this new cutie into my outfit for the day,

but gave up because 1) I have nothing to match and 2) no one was going to see me that day anyway. lamesauce.

for lunch, I ate leftover debbie chicken from when I cooked for Dinner Group last week. still delicious.

I have {almost} literally mountains of rice leftover, so I pondered making rice pudding. thought about it looooong and hard and gave up right about the time I realized I don't have any vanilla or nearly enough milk. so so sad. maybe it'll still happen when some saint donates some milk and vanilla to my I'm-super-sick-and-frankly-quite-tired-and-kinda-lazy charity.

I fakebooked for a while. that got boring real fast.

the self-quarantine broke for a while when I went to go to get a free cupcake from sprinkles. today's was a banana cupcake with peanut butter frosting.

{I also attempted to deposit some checks, but somebody LIED when my iPhone app said there was a credit union ATM at 7-Eleven. don't be fooled!}

now I'm waiting for my friendlies to get home, my body to heal, dinner to be in my belly & bed time to be here again.

I cut off like 3-4 inches in January

and then another 3 inches just before coming to DC.

and I don't know what to do with it anymore! it's sooooo hard to be creative with short hair.

The Case of the Vanishing Visine.

it's a true story, I swear. cross my heart & hope to die.

so, once upon a time, I got hay fever. {which is basically just a fancy word for *ahem* allergies.} this weekend at the zoo was especially bad. now I look like a drug addict 24/7 because my eyes are so bloodshot. back to Baked and Wired, anyone?

:( it's rough being me.

two days ago, my dear sweet DC roommate Janet gave me some Benadryl and let me borrow her Visine drops. I used the drops that morning and it made my sad eyes feel wayyyyyyy better. I remember putting them in a supersecretspecial place where I wouldn't forget to give them back.

that night, when my eyes started burning and screaming again, I looked around for the Visine.

no where to be found.

seriously. our room is like 30 square feet. maybe 45 if you include the bathroom. how could you lose a bottle of Visine drops?!

they got up and walked away. it's the only logical explanation.

so if anybody finds a wandering bottle of Visine on the side of the road that looks like it ran away from home, please let me know asap. thanks guys.

...guys! guys!

there is some crazy stuff going on in the world right now!

1. a fun crazy- real life Up! so stinkin cool!

2. a creepy crazy- a whorder and a mummified mom?! {seriously, this story makes me a little nauseas...}

3. and finally- as many of you probly know- Japan's quake & tsunami

my thoughts and prayers go out to those with flooding and damage in Hawaii & California, but especially those in Japan.

between quakes and aftershocks, a devastating tsunami and threats of a nuclear plant meltdown, I'm incredibly grateful for my current situation and blessings.

Thursday night, I was stressing about a big decision I have to make in the very near future {aka- Monday} as far as my summer plants are concerned. then my sweet mom texted me at like 11:30pm saying to watch the news because Japan was in trouble. then she sent me messages about warnings in Hawaii {where my little sister Jaime is going to school} and to stay in contact with her. they were evacuated from their dorm rooms at 3am and sent to wait for the worst. luckily, her side of the island wasn't hit and the waves that hit Honolulu were smaller than expected.

still. scary stuff.

then that next morning I saw alerts that the waves would hit the US west coast, particularly San Fran, other parts of NorCal, LA, Santa Barbara and Newport Beach. aka- all my stomping grounds & current residence of my favoritefriend Chantelly. I think there was some flooding and damage up north, but less than expected.

again. more scary stuff.

I was so caught up in my own life, and- as devastating as the whole thing is- Japan was a totally needed reality check for me. I spent my entire day at work on Friday doing "tsunami watch" and didn't think about my big near-future decision for more than 3 seconds max.

and I needed that wake up call.

but after scares like that, I'm mostly just grateful everyone I know and love is safe and taken care of. not everyone in the world has that luxury.

Baseball & DQ & French Fries saved my life

yesterday was the worst day I've had in a looooong time.

in almost four years as a matter of fact.

ask me why later. maybe I'll tell you about it.

or maybe you can guess.

on top of that,

I failed my cleaning check.

and then I locked my keys in my car this morning.

haaaaaaaaaaaaa.

let's see what else bad can happen in the next 48 hours.

anyway, I had three saving graces yesterday. well, three inanimate objects. lots of kind friends though.

1. SF Giants baseball game.

the game was so intense.

and awesomely distracting from my, um, state.

and we won.

I have a new Giants love-interest.

2. Dairy Queen Pumpkin Pie Blizzard

Chantelly was kind enough to purchase for me.

definitely made me forget all my woes.

sorry, this one's already been on the playlist, and I've prolly blogged about it before, but I seriously just can't get enough of it. the SYTYCD number by Kayla and Kupono a few seasons ago just blows my mind and makes me teary-eyed every stinking time. GAH! anyways, it's one of my favorite sing-in-the-shower songs. seriously beautiful.

Happiness by The Fray

another fabulous sing-in-the-shower song. the tune is simple, but the words are incredibly powerful. and performed live it was even better, if that's even possible. any time I'm having a bad day, I listen to this song and it makes me feel, um, worse? better? I'm not even sure how to explain it. but "happiness feels a lot like sorrow on your door, but you just let it in". truuuuuuuuue statement.

Come Home by One Republic (but the one feat. Sara Bareilles is phenomenal)

yowza. this is one my dear seester introduced me to (she finds all things One Republic and they are all AWESOME) a few weeks ago. goodness GRACIOUS, it's deep. all about finding your better half and stopping to see the beauty in everything around you. to me, this song sounds so lonely, but you listen to the words, and it's truly amazing.

Falling Slowly by Kris Allen

yeah, yeah, I know it wasn't originally Kris Allen, but this is the one I like best anyways. ha. .... except part of me still can't figure out what this song is about. it's about despair? or love? or finding that one thing or one person that can save you? or being twitterpated? sheesh, maybe all of the above. but the melodies in this song just kill me. the high notes in the chorus get me every time. whew.

Heart of Life by John Mayer

this is another "I love life more than everything" song. just having a positive outlook on life and everything stinky about it. another super simple melody, but still incredibly gorgeous and thoughtful. :) yay. plus, Peter introduced me to it.

Let the Rain by Sara Bareilles

... I may have a slight obsession with songs about rain. which is a little bit hilarious, since I hate rain with a fiery passion (... ironic. fiery hatred for rain... hmm...) but to me, rain=all things sad/bad/miserable. so songs that beckon for rainfall intrigue me? maybe? I'm not totally sure. but this song is all about embracing rain and tears and sadness. just wanting to be enough to meet everyone's expectations, wanting to be fickle and irrational and not caring about anything else in the world. now that's something I can relate to.

... sorry. if you can't tell, I've had a recent obsession with SB lately. she's playing at The Venue on Nov 17. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeiii!! now I just gotta convince the boy to take me. otherwise I'll be flyin solo.

There Was a Change of Heart

wowzers, this post might be a doozy. or maybe I'm writing it just to write it. just for me. either way, I feel a little bit more complete today.

my dear friend Li-Sha is adorable. end of story. but I was just reading her blog about the death of her friend. her story is seriously tragic and made me cry lots. {read about it here}

but it really made me think about my life and my friends. I would be crushed without any of them.

in my journal this morning, I wrote some of my not-so-nice feelings. and I guess that's the point of a journal- to write down how you really feel inside- but if I were to die today, I would hate for that to be the last thing I'd ever written about those people. and I'd hate to read that someone had written something like that about me.

from now on, I'm going to strive to be the best and kindest and most thoughtful friend I can be.

help me remember that, ok?
