so I read an article a couple days ago about the makings of a social media slut.
granted, I am not to the level that this man is at, but I still eat, sleep and breathe it a lil.
sometimes I feel like I speak another language. for instance...
unfortunately {or maybe fortunately, who knows}, I am not an avid google + user yet. mostly because I just don't get it. anyone want to enlighten me on that?
maybe someday...

"You Should Date An Illiterate Girl"
By Charles Warnke
By Charles Warnke
Date a girl who doesn’t read. Find her in the weary squalor of a Midwestern bar. Find her in the smoke, drunken sweat, and varicolored light of an upscale nightclub. Wherever you find her, find her smiling. Make sure that it lingers when the people that are talking to her look away. Engage her with unsentimental trivialities. Use pick-up lines and laugh inwardly. Take her outside when the night overstays its welcome. Ignore the palpable weight of fatigue. Kiss her in the rain under the weak glow of a streetlamp because you’ve seen it in film. Remark at its lack of significance. Take her to your apartment.
Let the anxious contract you’ve unwittingly written evolve slowly and uncomfortably into a relationship. Find shared interests and common ground like sushi, and folk music. Build an impenetrable bastion upon that ground. Make it sacred. Retreat into it every time the air gets stale, or the evenings get long. Talk about nothing of significance. Do little thinking. Let the months pass unnoticed. Ask her to move in. Let her decorate. Get into fights about inconsequential things like how the shower curtain needs to be closed so that it doesn’t collect mold. Let a year pass unnoticed.
Begin to notice.
Figure that you should probably get married because you will have wasted a lot of time otherwise. Take her to dinner on the forty-fifth floor at a restaurant far beyond your means. Make sure there is a beautiful view of the city.
Sheepishly ask a waiter to bring her a glass of champagne with a modest ring in it. When she notices, propose to her with all of the enthusiasm and sincerity you can muster. Do not be overly concerned if you feel your heart leap through a pane of sheet glass. For that matter, do not be overly concerned if you cannot feel it at all. If there is applause, let it stagnate. If she cries, smile as if you’ve never been happier. If she doesn’t, smile all the same.
Let the years pass unnoticed. Get a career, not a job. Buy a house. Have two striking children. Try to raise them well. Fail, frequently. Lapse into a bored indifference. Lapse into an indifferent sadness. Have a mid-life crisis. Grow old. Wonder at your lack of achievement. Feel sometimes contented, but mostly vacant and ethereal. Feel, during walks, as if you might never return, or as if you might blow away on the wind. Contract a terminal illness. Die, but only after you observe that the girl who didn’t read never made your heart oscillate with any significant passion, that no one will write the story of your lives, and that she will die, too, with only a mild and tempered regret that nothing ever came of her capacity to love.
Do those things, dammit, because nothing sucks worse than a girl who reads. Do it, I say, because a life in purgatory is better than a life in hell. Do it, because a girl who reads possesses a vocabulary that can describe that amorphous discontent as a life unfulfilled—a vocabulary that parses the innate beauty of the world and makes it an accessible necessity instead of an alien wonder. A girl who reads lays claim to a vocabulary that distinguishes between the specious and soulless rhetoric of someone who cannot love her, and the inarticulate desperation of someone who loves her too much. A vocabulary, dammit, that makes my vacuous sophistry a cheap trick.
Do it, because a girl who reads understands syntax. Literature has taught her that moments of tenderness come in sporadic but knowable intervals. A girl who reads knows that life is not planar; she knows, and rightly demands, that the ebb comes along with the flow of disappointment. A girl who has read up on her syntax senses the irregular pauses—the hesitation of breath—endemic to a lie. A girl who reads perceives the difference between a parenthetical moment of anger and the entrenched habits of someone whose bitter cynicism will run on, run on well past any point of reason, or purpose, run on far after she has packed a suitcase and said a reluctant goodbye and she has decided that I am an ellipsis and not a period. Syntax that knows the rhythm and cadence of a life well lived.
Date a girl who doesn’t read because the girl who reads knows the importance of plot. She can trace out the demarcations of a prologue and the sharp ridges of a climax. She feels them in her skin. The girl who reads will be patient with an intermission and expedite a denouement. But of all things, the girl who reads knows most the ineluctable significance of an end. She is comfortable with them. She has bid farewell to a thousand heroes with only a twinge of sadness.

In July 2011, Intel and Toshiba partnered together to create Hollywood's first Social Film experience, a thriller called Inside, directed by D.J. Caruso and starring Emmy Rossum. The project is broken up into several segments across multiple social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. In this instance, the audience is challenged to help Emmy Rossum’s character, Christina, safely make it out of the room she’s been trapped in.
so right now we're trying to figure out whereEmmy Christine Daaé Christina is exactly and get her out of this room. there have been notes taped to things, phone numbers found on pipes, websites found behind wallpaper, etc. now we're just waiting for another clue, more pictures or a video.
... and just so you know, I've done lots of other things. like work. and eat. and sleep. and go to an FHE talent show. stuff like that.
in hindsight, I definitely look like a dork being involved in this. but it's mildly captivating, okay!? don't judge me. it's intriguing.

11 of us took on the challenge of eating the $77.00 Treasure Chest at Serendipity.
yep. Sean's reaction basically says it all.
mountain of ice cream, cheesecake, cookies, deep fried oreos, berries, waffle cones and peanut putter pie. all shoved in a solid chocolate treasure chest box.
hooooooooooooooly yes. and holy sugar.
my favorite part of this picture is that Janet looks so hesitant.
and in about 20 minutes time, this was our end result.
minus our fearless leader James who was determined to finish the chocolate box part.
ya. see that crazy sugar-glazed look in his eyes? we're surprised he wasn't diabetic by the time it was over. as hard as he tried, the box didn't get finished.
yes, it was epic to say the least. and it was TOTALLY worth it. but I won't be trying it again anytime soon. :)

I want to make this.
granted, mine won't look nearly as beautiful as this one, but this is the general idea.
some girls at the Riv had a clock inside a book, and I thought it was the most genius idea ever.
then I forgot about it until like 2 weeks ago.
so now I've been re-inspired. {I'm sure going to that awesome used book store near Eastern Market helped that inspiration a lil}
here's how it'll go down.
step 1) find a sweet used book. but not one that I will be too sad about destroying. I found a really fun {green} copy of sherlock holmes. something like that.
step 2) buy said sweet used book.
step 3) take apart a clock. ???
step 4) cut a square out of the middle of the last 2/3 of the pages in the book
step 5) glue last 2/3 pages to each other
step 6) glue first 1/2 pages to each other
step 7) put clock guts and hands into the cut out square
step 8) done-ski?
mostly it sounds like a lot of gluing. and figuring out how to take apart a clock.
we'll see how it goes.
dear adobe indesign,
thank you for coming back into my life so suddenly. my brochure skills have been renewed.
sincerely, this is like CHum 230 all over again!!
dear gmail and blogger,
... I think I liked you better before.
love, quit changing!
dear DC food trucks,
*sniffle* please?
love, Union Station is hungry over here...
dear au bon pain,
thank you for blowing my secret identity.
sincerely, mac&cheese, formerly known as manna from heaven.
dear fam,
4 more weeks till I'm home. thanks.
love, that was way too much fun :)
my life now revolves around cupcakes.
every day around noon-ish, sprinkles cupcakes sends out a tweet with a code word or phrase for a free cupcake! it's typically only available to the first 50 people, but I live so close, I'll get one, um, let's just say often. and because I just subscribe to their tweets via text message, I get a text every single day with a new secret phrase for a new free cupcake.
:)
it's to the point where people will text me and ask for today's code, or when I come home from work, people just ask 'how was today's cupcake?'
yeahhhh. it's pretty bad.
my reviews so far
lemon blueberry- pretty good, but I thought I would like it more than I did. the lemon frosting was a lil overwhelming, and the cake part was moist enough, but the whole thing just sorta just tasted like a blueberry muffin with SUPER strong lemon paste on top. 7/10
milk chocolate- by far my favorite. super moist and not a ton of frosting, but it was this super yummy chocolate butter cream frosting that was sooooooooo gooey and good. I would eat this one every day if they'd send me a free code for it. 9/10
dark chocolate- I don't like dark chocolate, so this one was a miss for me. I fell in LOVE with the milk chocolate and thought this one would be just as good. not so much. if you're a dark chocolate fan though, this might be divine. 5/10
red velvet- super yummy, but how can you go wrong with red velvet?? it was reeeeeally moist and the buttercream frosting on top just made it heavenly. a do-over for sure. 8/10
banana peanut butter- also an interesting one, but I sort of loved it. maybe because I wasn't expecting much. anyway, kinda like the lemon blueberry, it was mostly like a banana bread-ish cupcake with this really creamy sweet peanut butter on top. I'd definitely do this one again, just because it was so different. 7/10
black and white- I had high expectations for this one, and it was good, don't get me wrong, but it was a lil average in my opinion. the chocolate shaving sprinkles on top were probly my favorite part. chocolate cake with vanilla frosting, ehhhh. all really really good, but nothing out of the ordinary. 7/10
cinnamon sugar- don't get this one. it was lame. sure all the cakes at sprinkles is really gooey and moist, but this had zero frosting on it. just a layer of cinnamon sugar on top of a kinda weird spice cake. not very appealing. I'm sorry, I didn't think I was a frosting girl, but I stand corrected. I want my frosting. 3/10
chocolate marshmallow- okay this one was seriously legit guys. it tasted JUST like a hostess cupcake. with the hard chocolate layer on top and the marshmallowy goodness on the inside.... super delicious. my second favorite of all the ones I've had so far. way yummy. 8.5/10
vanilla- vanilla on vanilla. it was okay. frosting was the best part {but apparently I'm a sucker for their butter cream stuff so THAT'S nothing new}. I not-so-accidentally accidentally ate two of these in one night, so that sort of tainted my view as well. two sprinkles cupcakes in one night = too much cupcake. but still, pretty okay. 5/10
and just for the record, I don't plan to take complete advantage of them. I've already told myself I'll probly buy a shirt at the end of the summer, just to commemorate this outrageously awesome {and kind of diabolical} experience. so you should probly ask me about it when you see me rockin the shirt around Provo.
